A Gondola for all eternity

The names of Ski Greats, old and new, decorate the Hahnenkammbahn cable cars. Every athlete who won in Kitzbühel is honored with his "own" gondola.  With it comes a special celebration: a gondola inauguration ceremony in the summer at the Hahnenkammbahn top Station - also known as the second award ceremony. It is a special honour for all victors of the Streif and Ganslernhang. The gondola baptism was introduced to demonstrate respect for every winner's outstanding achievement. As Chief of Piste and Race Director Peter Obernauer likes to say, only the world's best athletes triumph in Kitzbühel.
